National Forum on Oman’s Green Economy

The forum focuses on how Oman can align its emerging green economy with future workforce needs. It builds on the Labour Market Intelligence Analysis (LMIA) project, which supports Vision 2040 and the country’s energy transition by identifying opportunities, risks, and labour-market implications across new clean-energy industries.

The LMIA maps how sectors such as hydrogen, renewables, energy-efficient industries, and green manufacturing can diversify the economy while creating meaningful jobs for Omani youth. Using strategic foresight and scenario planning, the project analyzes how global trends, technology shifts, and climate policies could affect Oman’s economic path and resilience.

A core contribution of the work is detailed sector profiling. Thirty green-economy sectors were assessed across economic potential, maturity, investment readiness, employment opportunities, and risks. Artificial intelligence was then used to cluster sectors, showing which are ready for near-term development and which require targeted policy support.

Another key pillar is labour-market analysis. Surveys, ministry data, and interviews reveal skills gaps, employability challenges, and areas where Omanization can be strengthened. The study also maps education and training pathways, helping universities and training centers adapt curricula to future green-sector needs.

The forum highlights lessons from international case studies — including renewable-industry successes and failures — and translates them into practical insights for Oman. It also presents employment projections, occupational maps, and a digital database that links job roles to skills and training needs, supporting reskilling and career mobility.

Ultimately, the forum aims to help policymakers, educators, and industry leaders coordinate investments, education reform, and job creation. By aligning economic diversification with workforce development, Oman can ensure that its green transition is competitive, inclusive, and sustainable.
