About
Dr Dawud Al Ansari is the President of the Majan Council, where he is responsible for organisational development, strategy, quality assurance, and international outreach. He also leads the Council’s research programmes on foresight, economics, and strategic affairs, and advises decision-makers in Oman, the Gulf, and internationally on the Council’s core areas of work.
An economist and foresight expert by training, Dr Al Ansari specialises in geopolitics, energy systems, and development policy. He holds a PhD in Applied Economics from Humboldt University of Berlin, and previously studied at the Berlin Institute of Technology and Johns Hopkins University. Before assuming the presidency of the Majan Council, he led research and major policy dialogues at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), focusing on the geopolitics of energy, EU-GCC relations, and regional stability in the MENA region. His policy work has been cited in national strategies and international publications, and he has advised governments and organisations on economic diversification, hydrogen diplomacy, and strategic infrastructure planning. Earlier in his career, he led the oil market desk at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), with research centred on economic development in fuel-rich countries.
Beyond his role at the Majan Council, Dr Al Ansari serves as President of the Arab-German Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), a network fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among leading researchers in Germany and the Arab world. He is also Chairman of the Foundation Nord-Süd-Brücken, which supports sustainable development and infrastructure projects, including in fragile contexts such as Yemen. He is adjunct faculty at the Berlin Institute of Technology and the German University of Technology in Oman, where he teaches postgraduate and executive-level courses, including MBA and PhD programmes.
Dr Al Ansari has authored more than 70 publications, including policy reports, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters. His work has appeared in Nature Energy, World Development, and The Geopolitics of Hydrogen, and he collaborates with institutions such as the IEA, IRENA, and the European Commission. He also holds an honorary affiliation with the German Institute for Economic Research.
