Research Fellow – Economic Policy, Energy Transition & Strategic Affairs


About the Role

Majan Council is seeking highly capable, motivated, and forward-thinking Research Fellows to contribute to its applied research and policy advisory work. This role represents a unique opportunity to engage in a “think-and-do” environment that goes beyond traditional academic research, focusing on generating actionable insights and supporting real-world policy and strategic decision-making.

At a time of rapid global transformation—driven by economic shifts, technological advancement, evolving geopolitical dynamics, and sustainability imperatives—the ability to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions has become increasingly critical. Majan Council operates at the intersection of foresight, strategy, energy, and public policy, enabling it to address complex challenges through a holistic and implementation-oriented approach.

Research Fellows will contribute to shaping high-impact research outputs, supporting strategic initiatives, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across government, industry, and academia. Fellows will work across Majan’s core thematic areas, including economics and society, engineering and technology, industry, foreign policy and international relations, and sustainability-related domains, allowing them to expand beyond their core specialization and contribute to integrated, high-impact solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to research studies, policy papers, and strategic advisory outputs
  • Conduct in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis across economic, energy, and industrial topics
  • Develop clear, actionable policy insights and recommendations aligned with national and regional priorities
  • Support the design and delivery of research projects and consultancy assignments
  • Engage with stakeholders through workshops, interviews, roundtables, and high-level dialogues
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations, policy briefs, and high-level outputs
  • Support the development of datasets, analytical frameworks, and evidence-based insights
  • Track regional and global trends related to economic transformation, sustainability, and energy transition
  • Participate in Majan knowledge platforms such as Majan Perspectives and Majan Rua’a
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and impactful solutions
  • Contribute to strengthening Majan’s thought leadership and strategic positioning

Requirements

  • PhD in Economics, Public Policy, Political Economy, Energy, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in research, consulting, or policy advisory roles
  • Strong track record in producing high-quality research, publications, or strategic outputs
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing ability with experience in producing structured reports, policy papers, and analytical outputs
  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear, practical, and actionable insights
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with senior stakeholders across government, industry, and academia
  • Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in energy transition, sustainability, industrial development, or economic policy
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in English is required; Arabic is an advantage
